By-Laws

Article 1: Name

 

   This Company shall be known as the “3rd Newtonbrook Venturer Company”.

 

   Its nickname being “Courier De Bois

 

   It is sponsored by Weitz’s Toyota of Willowdale, Ontario.

 

Article 2: Membership

 

a) Anyone 14 to 17 years old may apply for membership after an initiation period, as determined by the Executive.  After this time has elapsed, the Executive shall approve his or her membership.

b) The age range (14-17) is intended only as a general guideline; a variation of one year may be permitted with the approval of the Executive.

c) To become an invested member of the Company, each candidate must complete all of the following:

 

1.                                                  Be a current member of Scouts Canada

2.                                                  Know and Understand the following:

·                                                                                                                The Venturer Promise

·                                                                                                                The Venturer Motto

·                                                                                                                The Venturer Handshake

·                                                                                                                The Venturer Salute

·                                                                                                                The Venturer Sign

3.                                                  Attend one group camp, Venturee, Moot or comparable outing with the Company.

4.                                                  Participate in a service project of one hour or longer.

5.                                                  Read and Understand the Company’s by-laws.

 

Article 3: Executive Committee

 

a) The Executive Committee consists of the following positions: President, Secretary, Quartermaster and Treasurer.

b) The term of each position shall be one year.

Article 4: Elections of Officers

 

a) Nominations for the incoming Executive shall be accepted during the first Company business meeting of June of each year.

b) Each nomination must be Moved and Seconded by an Invested Member of the Company.

c) A vacancy occurring in any of the elected positions during the current year shall be filled by an appointment of the President, subject to the approval of the remaining members of the Executive Committee.

 

 

Article 5: Dues

 

a) Members shall pay monthly dues of $5.00 to the Treasurer.

b) Dues shall be due on the first Wednesday of each month and payable at the first business meeting of the month.

c) Each member shall pay the annual registration membership fee.

 

Article 6: Dress

 

a) The Casual Uniform of the Company shall consist of: Blue Company T-shirt, Green Scouts Canada Vest, Duke of Edinburgh Scarf and Red/Blue Venturer Sash.

b) The Formal Uniform of the Company shall consist of: White Dress Shirt, Duke of Edinburgh Scarf and Red/Blue Venturer Sash.

 

Article 7: Company Organization

 

a) The company will endeavor to live according to the Mission, Principles and Practices of Scouts Canada, to live by the Venturer Promise, and to design activities that will enable all members to achieve the Venturer program objectives described in the Canadian Venturer Handbook.

b) The entire company shall have a business meeting on the first Wednesday of each month. Other meetings may be held throughout the month as deemed necessary by the Executive.

c) The Executive shall be responsible for organizing the business meetings and its agenda.

 

Article 8: Amendments

 

a) The By-Laws may be amended at any business meeting with one week’s notice to all Invested Members of the Company.

b) Amendments must be Moved and Seconded by Invested Members of the Company.

c) A two-thirds majority of all Invested Members of the Company must be obtained to amend the By-Laws.

d) Members absent from the business meeting scheduled for the tallying of a vote to change the By-Laws after two official notifications shall be excluded from the calculation of the two-third majority required in Article 8,part c).
